Silver Y Moth

Scientific Name: ( Autographa gamma )
One of our migratory visitors, this medium sized moth can be found throughout a variety of habitats from grasslands to sand dunes from May to October. In comparison to many moth species, Silver Y's can emerge during both day and night. The adults can be identified by their marbled grey-brown forewings with an unbroken silver-white ‘Y’ marking on each wing. Most noticeably however, is the ‘cow lick’ tuft of fur sticking up on the back of their head.
