Roker Cetacean Watch (12/11/2025)
Did you know our coastal waters are home to a number of cetacean species? That’s the group name for whales, dolphins and porpoises! Join COAST Sunderland and Durham Wildlife Trust to help to improve the conservation and protection of whales, dolphins and porpoises, by taking part in this guided cetacean watch to monitor and record this important group of marine mammals.
Bottlenose dolphins are regularly seen in this area and can be spotted all year round, but we might also be lucky enough to spot the shy Harbour Porpoise, the smallest cetacean found in UK waters. We will also keep a look out other marine mammals like grey seals as well as our important wintering wader birds!
Booking is essential so please book through the Durham Wildlife Trust @ Cetacean Watch Sunderland | Durham. If heavy rain or storms are forecast, this event will be cancelled in advance.
We will meet by the entrance to Roker Pier at 10am W3W///steer.hurray.void
No binoculars? No problem as we will have some available to borrow on the day. However, if you do have a pair then please bring them along!
This event is open to all ages but please note than under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Please wear weather appropriate clothing.
