Harbour Porpoise

Harbour Porpoise

Scientific Name: ( Phocoena phocoena )
The Harbour Porpoise is the smallest cetacean found in UK waters. Despite their size, they are often spotted from the shore as they primarily inhabit coastal areas with shallow water. Harbour porpoises are best identified by a small triangular dorsal fin in the centre of their back and unlike dolphins, no beak is visible when they surface. They are typically shy and will actively avoid boats and water sports equipment when encountered near the coast.
