Large Skipper

Scientific Name: ( Ochlodes sylvanus )

Different to many of our butterflies, the Large Skipper is part of the skipper family all of which when resting hold their wings behind their body instead of spread out to the sides. They can be found in long grasses and especially on sunny verges of long vegetation and feeding on the flowers of brambles.

The Large Skipper is a relatively small butterfly in comparison to other species, with an orange upper wing and a distinctive checkerboard pattern on their lower wing which differs them from the Small & the Essex skippers.
